Cigarette smoking is generally considered to be hazardous to one’s health. It is considered to be one of the main risk factors for diseases such as cancer (most commonly lung cancer and mouth cancer), heart attacks and strokes. However, there are nearly 5.5 trillion cigarettes manufactured annually and over 1.1 billion people smoke cigarettes. Due to the health risks involved, many smokers want to quit and are looking for an easy way to stop smoking. Several ways are available to an individual to quit this habit.

First step of the easy way to stop smoking is to find one’s triggers, or the reasons one smokes. Almost every smoker has a physical or an emotional cause for smoking such as, stress, fatigue and frustration. Therefore, once these are identified, one should try to avoid these situations or seek alternative methods to address them such as therapy, meditation and rest . The next step is to find support and guidance and thus, friends or family members would be ideal for this. One could also join a supporting group or therapy sessions to cope up with the effects of smoking cessation. Through these sessions one could gain the understanding that these is no relatively easy way to stop smoking and it will take some effort to overcome this habit.

Some choose to quit without the usage of any aids, although these aids may provide a comparatively easy way to stop smoking. Cigarettes contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance; it is claimed that nicotine addiction is harder to break even than heroin addiction. Once a smoker quits, the nicotine cravings kick in and it is these that draw an individual back to the habit. Alternative methods such as nicotine patches, sprays and gum could be used to deal with nicotine cravings.

Several other products such as the electronic cigarette claims to offer an easy way to stop smoking. These work by providing a user with an inhaled dose of nicotine without any tobacco burning. However, the WHO does not officially recognize the electronic cigarette as a valid nicotine replacement treatment. Besides the electronic cigarette, several other methods and products including smokeless tobacco, herbal cigarettes and certain drugs/medication have come forth as an easy way to stop smoking.

One should understand that there is no relatively easy way to stop smoking through which one could give up the habit without any physical and mental side effects. In addition, each person may require different methods to quit the habit. Generally, the quitting process would take some effort and lot of will power.
